Cooking the Craft project and kitchenware collection
In his Cooking the Craft project, Ivo Jedlička connected his two main interests: product design and gastronomy. In collaboration with Czech craftspeople and in dialog with professionals from the UM Národní center for gastronomy, he created a kitchenware set inspired by traditional methods of glass and ceramics processing, which he then presented by serving meals specially designed by Ambiente chef František Skopec. The original impetus for creating a set of glasses, plates and bowls was not driven by the need to create a prototype for serial production, but rather his desire to explore the qualities of the materials and test their potential and limits. Much like the culinary delicacies they frame, this set of six aesthetically stimulating items was made through an almost alchemical process of layering and material connection – Ivo Jedlička was inspired by classical culinary methods and dishes, such as breading, tortillas, laminated dough, crème brûlée or sugar candies. Apart from the actual experimental process, Cooking the Craft also emphasizes the experience of shared and multisensory moments which people often get from sharing a meal.
