The unique style of the two hundred tons studio (comprised by Adam and Monika Štok) consists in using standard metal profiles and their industrial aesthetics within the context of furniture design. Such a choice of components also requires particular tools and technologies which they use for bending, pressing or cutting their materials – for example, a hydraulic press or a rotational laser allow direct solutions for their structure and shape. The Unroll furniture collection is based on the principle of lengthwise cutting of steel tubes which are separated into four-part, “fluted” panels. The designers then use these as side-panels for the shelves, simple wall-mounted hangers or the bases for conference tables. The selected technology allows for meticulous processing of metal features without producing waste. In their designs, the studio emphasizes the optimal interconnection of materials and their processing methods, but also the individual pieces’ functionality and longevity, assured by their surface finish and powder-coating.
