For 150 years fire extinguishers were constructed as industrial bottles but then architect Přemysl Kokeš came up with the idea to design a nice, user-friendly one. Based on his own experience with house and interior design and fire extinguishing, he and his team could find solutions to issues overlooked in the past. He developed and had patented and certified unique fire extinguishers, and opened a small factory where they are now produced.
Most participants in fire drills are put off by the complicated use of the classic fire extinguisher. And since these devices are also ugly and take up much space, they often end up hidden in basements and garages or are totally absent in buildings. The situation is alarming and not only because the popularity of wood houses keeps growing. Last year, after studying crisis situations, Přemysl Kokeš developed, together with David Rosinai and Zuzana Ambrožová, the revolutionary Shield fire extinguisher. Once removed from the wall, Shield can be placed on the wearer’s forearm and activated with one hand. It can also include a lamp, a first-aid kit, a defibrillator, an oxygen mask, and other accessories that may come in handy in rescue situations. This “rescue point”, as the author calls it, is available in many versions and can serve as a decoration – or at least as a harmonious part – of the interior.
