The Czech Grand Design Awards are announcing their nominations for 2023. The names of the finalists will be announced on 29 February in the Museum of Applied Arts in Brno, and the final winners will be acclaimed in The Estates Theater in Prague on 3 March.
This year, a total of 86 makers, studios and companies have been given the opportunity to win the prestigious Czech Grand Design Award. This is the eighteenth time that the Czech Design Academy has curated the nominations longlist in eight categories, offering a selection of the best works the Czech creative industry has to offer over the past year – from revolutionary collections by traditional Czech glassworks and producers, through aesthetic and environmentally-styled furniture, fashion, toys and other objects of everyday use, to the graphic design of Presidential post stamps, or workbooks and interactive textbooks for elementary school students. On the evening of Thursday, 29 February 2024, the Museum of Applied Arts in Brno will host the announcement of the nominations long-list, which will yield three finalists for each category. The evening will be accompanied by the vernissage of Out of the Blue, an exhibition by the Lexová & Smetana studio, the laureates of last year’s Grand Designer award. The winners of all categories and the absolute winner – the interdisciplinary title of Grand Designer 2023 – will be announced as part of a creative gala evening which will be held in Prague’s Estates Theater on 3 March 2024 and will also feature the inauguration of a new figure into the Hall of Fame of Czech design. Product design, fashion, jewelry, graphic design, photography, illustration, producer of the year and discovery of the year – established designers, smart ideas and surprising novelties. The Czech Grand Design Awards will acclaim the previous years’ best works from these categories.
